People sometimes use religion to justify positions, especially around social and political topics. But our faith was never intended to try and win arguments. In fact, it’s just the opposite. Jesus did not play to win, he actually played to lose. His first century followers took up their cross rather than their rights, after they watched the best possible person suffer the worst possible death.
As followers of Christ we are called to do the same.
“But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.” -Philippians 2: 7-8a NIV
